Donna R. Basinger, 75, of Slaton, passed away January 3, 2020.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, January 8th, 2020, at 10:00 AM at the First Baptist Church, Slaton. Interment will be at Southland’s Resthaven Cemetery. The family will have a visitation on Tuesday, January 7th, 2020 from 6 to 7:30 PM at Englunds, Slaton. Arrangements by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Donna was the first baby born in 1945 in Hockley County at the Levelland Hospital to James Coleman Henderson and Rita Nell Bradley Henderson. She moved to Southland with her family and attended Southland schools. Donna married Don Basinger on January 26, 1962 in Southland. After marrying, Donna earned her cosmetology license from Jessie Lee’s Cosmetology School in Lubbock and worked in Plainview and then Pohl’s Beauty Shop in Slaton. Through the years, Donna enjoyed oil painting, quilting with the Jolly Jr. Quilters, playing Tripoley with a wonderful group of friends and was an avid fisherwoman.
Don and Donna farmed until 1997. Donna retired from the Lubbock County Clerk’s office in 2001. After starting a trucking company, D&D Trucking, they both retired in 2009.
Don preceded Donna in death on September 27, 2019.
Donna is survived by her two daughters Sherra (Jerry) Buxkemper of Buffalo Springs, Texas, and Robin (Stephen) Jamison of Lorena, Texas; 7 grandchildren, Craig Cearley, Christopher Cearley, Kassie Fleming, Macie Simpson, Garrison Jamison, Camden Jamison and Carrie Jo Anderson; and 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Patricia Campos from Miami, Arizona and Virginia Vandergriff of Springtown, Texas.
The family suggest memorials be made to the First Baptist Church in Slaton, Alzheimer’s Texas [www.txalz.org], or Southland’s Resthaven Cemetery Fund.
