Dorine Theresa Schwertner, 87 of Floydada, Texas died on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, after a lengthy illness. She was the last living child of Alois and Hattie Martens Kahlig. Rosary for Mrs. Schwertner will be at 6:00 PM Thursday, in Englund's Funeral Chapel in Slaton by Deacon's Arnold Schwertner and Michael Kahlig. The family will have a visitation from 5:00 PM till 6:00 PM before the Rosary. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at Friday 10:00 AM at the St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton, with Monsignor Timothy Schwertner of Stanton, Texas presiding. Burial will be at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Dorine was born in Runnels County, Texas on August 31, 1929. She married August Ermin Schwertner on July 26, 1949 in Olfen, Texas. Mr. And Mrs. Schwertner lived and farmed at Veribest, Woodrow, and Floydada. Dorine stayed on the farm until 2012. Lubbock became her home once again living at Grand Court and Promiseland III. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church of Olfen, Texas, St. Joseph's in Slaton, and San Jose in Lockney. Having a strong Catholic faith lead her to a deep devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. Dorine, a member of the Catholic Daughters and Christian Mothers, taught CCD, leader of the 4-H Club, Home Demonstration Club, classroom mom, and attended the ACTS retreat in 2001 in Amarillo. Other activities that kept her busy were singing, bird and butterfly watching, quilting, sewing for her children, sewing her daughters' wedding dresses and many blankets for her grandchildren, embroidering, cooking, canning, and helping out on the farm. Preceded in death are her husband, August, grandson, Hunter Schwertner, her parents, three brothers, and a sister. Survivors include her children Deacon Arnold (Teresa) of Amarillo, Patricia (Mike) Huereca of Houston, Doris (James) Franklin of Mesquite, David (Shirley) of Lubbock, Barbara (Terry) Zimmerman of Amarillo, and Gilbert of Floydada, 14 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. She is survived by many in-laws, cousins, nephews, nieces, and others who claim her as a Mom. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Anthony and Matthew Huereca, Samuel, Peter, and Thomas Franklin , Scott Zimmerman, and Trent Johnson. Gift bearers will be granddaughters, HollyAnne Zimmerman and Makenzie Johnson. Roses will be placed by the statue of Mary by great-grand children Colton Devine and Lauryn Martin.
