Wanda Jo Gentry

Wanda Jo Gentry, 80 of Lubbock, Texas went to be with her Lord on Saturday, April 29, 2017, at University Medical Center in Lubbock, Texas. Wanda was born Friday, July 10, 1936 in Lubbock, Texas and married her Husband, Charles Gentry, September 9, 1952 in Lubbock as well. Wanda was a housewife, waitress, worked for a printing company for a short time, and a volunteer for Exodus Prison Ministries for over 25 years. She was very proud of her Cherokee Indian heritage on her mothers side of the family. She loved to cook, crochet, draw and was excited she had learned to use a computer. She enjoyed caring for her children and husband. Wanda never met a stranger and loved telling people about her Lord and Savior. She attended all activities at her grandkids school. She always stressed to her family to be who they were and to not judge others because of their character or personalities saying "the world would be a boring place if we were all the same." Wanda's main concern was the unsaved people in the world. She was a devoted servant for her Lord as well as a compassionate woman for all, a prayer warrior. She attended the Beacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock Tx and the Bible Baptist Church in Slaton, TX. Her final words the night before she passed was "God please take me home and send my family later!" She was excited to meet her Savior and walk among the ones she studied about in the bible. Surviving are sons; Thomas D. Gentry, Vaughn Gentry of Lubbock, TX and Jeff and wife Celeste Gentry of Slaton, daughter; Charlene Gentry of Slaton, TX, one brother; Donnie and Gail Harris of Lubbock, TX and a special sister in-law Annabel Phillips and husband J.W. of Lubbock, TX, a brother in-law; Bill Karon from Lubbock TX; 11 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren and numerous beloved nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Charles Gentry in 2006. A Funeral service will be at 10:30 AM on Saturday at Englewood Cemetery located at 1100 North 20th Slaton, Texas 79364. The family will receive friends from 6:00 PM to 7:30 PM on Friday, May 5, 2017, at Englunds, 1400 Woodrow Road, Slaton, Texas.
