Alvin was born February 13, 1929, in Slaton TX to Frank and Marie Wendell Kitten. He grew up on the farm instilling in him a love of the land. He attended grade school at St Joseph Catholic School and graduated from Cooper High School.

He served in the Army during the Korean War at Fort Sill for two years teaching trig.

Alvin met Agnes Schwertner at his brother's home in Slaton. She was standing there with curlers in her hair, and their love story began. They were married on June 30, 1951. After his discharge from the army, they settled on a farm south of Slaton where they established their home that they filled with 5 children, Marsha, Donna, Phillip, Joan, and Brenda.

He farmed cotton for 53 years, as well as performed side jobs such as carpentry work, electrical work, road grading, boll weevil eradication, and relief postal carrier. After achieving a pilot's license his love of flying took flight. He built a runway on a portion of his land for local crop-dusting pilots, as well as recreation craft and he took numerous friends and family members flying through the years, logging over 400 flights. He passed on his passion of flying on to his son Philip, grandsons Eric and Cameron and numerous nephews and friends.

Alvin was active in the Knights of Columbus, Wilson Lion's Club, and served on Wilson School Board.

Throughout his years, he developed many long-time relationships, never knew a stranger, and had a smile that everyone recognized. He was the guy you went to when you needed help because he would be there with tools and a smile.

Alvin's final years were spent at "The Legacy at South Plains" where he was cared for and loved by so many people. His amen's coffee" was often the highlight of his mornings. The staff loved his hugs, big grin and his walk to salute the flag each morning. We cannot thank them enough for loving him like family.

He was preceded in death by his parents Frank & Marie Kitten; his brothers Andrew and Franklin; his sisters, Mildred Warren, Colleen Bednarz, and Mary Catherine; the love of his life, Agnes; his only son Philip; granddaughters Sarah and Rebekah Green; grandsons Eric Savell and Cameron Kitten.

Those left to cherish his memory are his daughters Marsha Savell (Dan, deceased), Donna Fields (John), Joan McClesky (Bill), Brenda Green, and Brendi Kitten (daughter-in-love).
