Amador Vasquez Obituary
Amador Vasquez, 82, of Slaton, passed away on March 27, 2026.
A private family gathering will take place at a later date. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Amador was born on July 11, 1943 in Brownsville to Jose and Margarita Vasquez. He was the last of 14 children. He met Angelita Gonzales when they were teenagers and they were married two years later. They moved to Southland in 1975 with three children. With no housing available, they lived in a box car, which is still standing, for six months. Those three children look back on that as an adventure. Amador started farming for Dewayne Preston and farmed for about 30 years. Then he went to work for Methodist Hospital (now Covenant Hospital) with Environmental Services. He retired in October of 2022. Amador was a devoted family man. He was a fan of western movies and loved vanilla ice cream.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Angelita; his daughter, Angelica Vasquez; his grandchildren, Felipe and Andrew Madrid; seven sisters, and 6 brothers.
Amador is survived by his daughters, Margarita Toombs of Carlsbad, NM, Leticia Meza and her husband, Miguel of Lubbock, and Earnestina Rodriquez and her husband, Vicente; his sons, Amador Vasquez, Jr. and his wife, Irma of Lubbock, and Ignacio Vasquez and his wife, Debbie of Lubbock; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and 2 great-great grandchildren.
