Ann Hardesty Bishop Obituary

Anna Belle “Ann” Hardesty Bishop, 82, of Slaton, passed away Friday January 21, 2022.


Funeral Services will be at 1:00 pm Monday, January 24, 2022 at Hearts Together Church of Christ in Slaton.  Private family interment will follow at Jayton Cemetery in Jayton, Tx.  


Ann was born November 28, 1939 in Rotan to Byron Johnson Smith, Sr.  and Mary Myrtle Smith. She was raised in Clairemont before her family moved to Lubbock. She was an avid car enthusiast from the time she was a teenager. She married Richard Hardesty in 1957 and they owned and operated Hardesty Coachworks, a body repair shop for antique and foreign cars. They collected Jaguars. After moving to Slaton in 1968, she turned her car interest into a career, by becoming a salesperson at Crawford Chevrolet. She was one of the first female car salespersons in the area. She also sold cars at Pollard Friendly Ford and sold for many years at Gene Messer Ford before retiring in 1996.


          She was a member of Hearts Together Church of Christ and a volunteer for Slaton Meals on Wheels. 


          She is preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Louise Ceryance; and two brothers, Byron Johnson Smith, Jr. and Don Smith.


Ann is survived by daughters, Raynie Sageser and her husband, Chris of Cotton Center; and Lisa Edmunds and her husband, Glenn of Slaton; her son, Layne Hardesty of Slaton; three grandchildren; Cristalyn Parten and her husband, Chance, Jay Ray Sageser and his wife, Lauren, and Nathan Edmunds and his wife, Alisha; and six great-grandchildren.
