Anthony Latham Obituary

 

Anthony Wayne Latham,93, was born April 11, 1928 to William Earnest and Ina Bell Thomas Latham in Crosby County, the youngest of five children. He passed away Wednesday, August 25, 2021 at his home.

Visitation will be at 6:00-7:30 pm, Friday, August 27, 2021 at Englunds.  A celebration of life service will be at 10:30 am, Saturday, August 28, 2021 at First Baptist Church in Slaton. Officiating the service will be Wayne’s sons, Kenneth and Brad Winchester. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements by Englunds Funeral Service.

Wayne attended school in the Farmer community and Crosbyton. In 1948 Wayne joined the Navy and was assigned to the repair ship U.S.S. Jason. He was discharged as a Fireman First Class in 1951. Wayne started laying carpet in 1952 and installed floor coverings for decades. Wayne and Alene Jones Winchester married on January 1, 1960 making a family of five children. After he retired he started golfing and regularly played with friends and family. He played his last game with Kenneth in November. Wayne also enjoyed playing dominoes with friends at Slaton Senior Citizens Center.

He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alene;  son, Malcolm Latham; grandson, Scott Williams; and siblings, Bill Latham, Irene Sullins, Ethel “Babe” Bailey, and Johnny Latham.

Wayne is survived by his children; Nita Williams (Derel), John Dow Winchester (Bobbie), Kenneth Winchester (Donna), and Virgil Bradley Winchester (Karen); grandchildren, Regina Winchester, John Winchester, Kimberly Crawford(Charles), Jonathan Winchester (Maddie) and David Winchester; great grandchildren Kealani Winchester, Blake and Caleb Crawford, and Elliott and Wyatt Winchester; and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

The family suggests memorials to Slaton Meals on Wheels.

At the request of the family, please wear masks at the service and visitation regardless if you have or have not been vaccinated
