Apolonia Gonzalez, 96, of Lubbock, passed away on December 30, 2022.
Viewing will be 11:00 am-6:00 pm Friday, January 6, 2023 at Englunds, followed by a Rosary Service at 6:00 pm. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Saturday, January 7, 2023 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Apolonia was born on October 25, 1926 in Driscoll, Texas to Isaac and Apolonia Vasquez. She married Ignacio Gonzalez in 1941. Apolonia was a homemaker and a very loving mother and grandmother. She was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Slaton. She loved to sing, dance, playing bingo and attend family gatherings. Apolonia especially enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful cook and everyone loved her tamales, tortillas, bean burritos, pappas and beans.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ignacio and her son, Joe Gonzalez.
Apolonia is survived by her daughters, Patricia Bela, Gloria Gonzalez, Irma Valdez, Angelita Vasquez, Florinda Alvarado, Elida Martinez, Rosa Martinez, Mary Rodriquez, and Elvia Vela; her sons, Roman, Juan, Isaac, Abel, and Arnulfo Gonzalez; 61 grandchildren; 150 great grandchildren; 69 great great grandchildren; 2 great great great grandchildren and many close friends at the Adult Day Care Center in Lubbock.
