Benny Ostrander

Benny Ostrander, 75, of Woodrow, passed away Thursday, June 8, 2023.

Viewing will be 10:00am-1:00pm Tuesday, June 13, 2023, at Englunds. Visitation will follow 1:00-2:00pm, followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm at Englunds Chapel in Slaton. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.

Benny was born in Claremore, OK on June 23, 1947, to Leroy and Fonda (Fulcher) Ostrander. He was drafted into the Army in 1966 and proudly served 2 years in Vietnam. Shortly after his return, he married Shirley Rutherford on April 12, 1969, in Lubbock.  Benny was a master masonry worker most of his life, leaving school and learning his skill at the early age of 13. He was a history buff, loved sports, NASCAR, was enormously proud of his military service, and his Cherokee heritage.  Benny’s greatest joy was his family, and he was truly loved by all that knew him. He was also greatly respected in the business community for his unique quality work and fair dealings.

He was preceded in death by his father Leroy S. Ostrander, and his brother, Johnny Ray “Big O” Ostrander.

Benny is survived by his wife, Shirley of Woodrow; his daughters, Denice Rivera of Indianapolis, IN and Lacey Hendricks and her husband, Scott of Lubbock; his son, Tim Ostrander and his wife, Tabatha of Joshua, TX; his sisters, Janet  Roys and her husband, Richard and Shonda Holt and her husband, Pat, all of Woodrow; his mother, Fonda Ostrander of Woodrow; five grandchildren, Dylan Ostrander, Chelsea Freeman, Robert Hendricks, Jonathan Hendricks, and Charlotte Hendricks all of Lubbock  three great-grandchildren, Kaeson Freeman, Ellah Freeman, and Spencer Freeman all of Lubbock; along with many nephews, nieces, and cousins. Pallbearers will be Scott Hendricks, Robert Hendricks, Kelly Ostrander, Jerry Ostrander, Maverick Ostrander, Matthew Ostrander, and honorary pallbearer Woody Hamm.
