Berenice Parras Underwood, 60, of Slaton, passed away on Monday, August 11, 2025.

The family will receive friends at a visitation from 10:00 until 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 16th at Englunds Funeral Chapel in Slaton, Texas with service immediately following at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Englewood  Cemetery.

Berenice was born on September 27, 1964, in Uvalde, Texas. Berenice graduated from Slaton High School in 1983, where she graduated in the top 10% of her class and participated in basketball and track.  Berenice attended Girls State in Seguin, Texas as a junior in high school after being nominated by faculty and staff based on her demonstrated accomplishments of leadership, citizenship and character. ​She attended Texas Tech University for two years, and later in life attended Sunset International Bible Institute. 

Berenice loved seeing her grandchildren, caring for her canine kiddos, and serving family, friends, and others in need when she was able. She will always be remembered for her encouraging words, generosity, joyful heart, and eternal optimism.

Berenice was preceded in death by her brother Tomas Parras, father, Manuel Parras, sister Belen Parras Hermosillo, and husband Tim Underwood.

She is survived by her mother, Beatriz Parras of Slaton, TX, son Andres Huerta and grandson Justin Burris of Lubbock, TX, daughter Christiana Rodriguez and husband Chris of Lubbock, TX, granddaughters Miliana and Aliana Rodriguez and grandson Phillip Rodriguez of Lubbock, TX, sister Beatrice Olguin of Lubbock, TX, sister Paula Macon and husband Chris of Fairview, TX, brother Ricardo Parras of Slaton, TX, and many nephews, nieces and cousins.
