Bessie Ramirez Obituary

Bessie S. Ramirez, 84, of Slaton, passed away on Friday, September 4, 2020.

The rosary will be held in her honor on Tuesday, September 8, 2020, at 6:00 PM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton. The funeral mass will be celebrated at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, September 9, 2020, at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.  Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Seating will be limited due to social distancing on every other pew and masks are required at the funeral home and the church. The family asks in lieu of flowers that donations be made to Hospice of Lubbock, a nonprofit that made a huge effort to make sure she was comfortable and at peace, or Catholic Daughters of Slaton, TX in Bessie Ramirez’s name.

Bessie was born in Holland, Texas on September 1, 1936, to Doroteo and Rosa Siprian. She married Andrew Ramirez on June 26, 1953, and they were blessed with 64 years of marriage before his passing. They moved to Slaton in 1957 and became an integral part of the community. Bessie worked as a food attendant for Furr’s Cafeteria for many years and later for Aramark.

Bessie loved to cook, spend time with her family and friends, was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was an active member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and a member of the Catholic Daughters for over 40 years. She enjoyed listening to music, especially Little Joe.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband Andrew; her daughter, Norma Linda Ramirez; her sister, Lucy Ramirez; and her great-grandson, Andrew Herrera. 

Bessie is survived by her daughters, Marcel Ramirez-Bice and her husband, Bobby, of Taylor, Rosemary, Lori, and Linda Ramirez of Slaton, JoAnn Ramirez Frausto and husband, Eddie, of Lubbock, and Lupe Ramirez of Slaton; her sons, Martin Ramirez, and wife, Susan, of Sandy, Oregon, Andrew Ramirez, Jr. and wife, Rene, of Lubbock, Roy Ramirez and wife, Maricela, of Lubbock, Joe Ramirez and wife, Christie, of Lubbock, Fred Ramirez and wife, Delfina, of Walburg, and Emilio Ramirez and wife, Amanda, of Round Rock; her sisters, Patsy Solomon of Holland, Texas, Mona Rogal of Temple, and Maggie Siprian of Holland, Texas; her brothers, Tony Siprian and wife, Glenda, and Chili Siprian and wife, Debbie, all of Holland, Texas; 18 grandchildren; and 26 great-grandchildren.  

Bessie was under the care of Hospice of Lubbock for many years and the family would like to express their appreciation to the staff, including Peggy, Diana and Elizabeth.
