Bill Chapa, 81, of Slaton, Texas, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. 

Viewing will be held from 11:00 a.m. on Monday, July 27, 2026, at Englunds Chapel, followed by a Rosary Service at 6:00 p.m. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Services of Slaton.

Bill was born on September 12, 1944, in Lott, Texas, to Salvador and Siria Chapa. He graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1963, proudly making history as the only Hispanic member of his graduating class. Through determination, hard work, and quiet perseverance, he built a life defined by integrity, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to his family. Following graduation, Bill began his career with Walker Sims, which later became Exxon. After many years of dedicated service, the local shop closed, and Bill turned a challenge into an opportunity by opening Chapa's 66 and later Chapa's Tire Service. As a skilled mechanic and tire repairman, he became known not only for his craftsmanship but also for his honesty, kindness, and willingness to help anyone in need. His work earned him the respect of generations of customers and friends. Bill believed that a strong community was built through service. He proudly served as president of the Slaton Senior Citizen Center, where his generosity and leadership reflected his caring heart and desire to make a difference. He found happiness in life's simple blessings. Whether he was deep-sea fishing, deer hunting, or sitting with his guitar in hand, Bill appreciated the moments that brought family and friends together. He loved sharing stories, laughter, and music, creating memories that will be treasured for years to come. Above all, Bill was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend. His family was the center of his life and his greatest source of pride. He led not by seeking recognition, but by the quiet example of hard work, humility, faith, and unconditional love. Those who knew him will remember his steady presence, and generous heart.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Siria Chapa; his beloved daughter, Tina Basquez; and his sisters, Pam Medrano, Neva Montoya, and Brenda Delara.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 41 years, Irma Chapa; his daughters, Sylvia and husband Eldon, Maggie Castro, and Lisa Scott and husband Scotty; his sons, Raymond Maldonado and wife Diane, and Sergio Uvalle and wife Kaitlyn; his sisters, Mary Carrillo, Janie Vasquez, Bobbie Martinez, Ruby Gonzales, and Alice Arredondo; his brothers, Bay Chapa and wife Dee, and Jessie Chapa and wife Rachel; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and cherished friends.

While Bill's earthly journey has come to an end, the love he shared, the lessons he taught, and the example he set will continue to live on in the hearts of those who knew him. May his family find comfort in the memories they hold, peace in God's promise, and strength in knowing that Bill's legacy of love, kindness, and faith will continue through the generations he leaves behind.
