Billy Brannon Obituary

Billy Roy Brannon, 85, of Slaton, passed away on Friday, February 9, 2024.

Viewing will be 9:00-11:00 am Wednesday, February 14, 2024, at Englunds, followed by a Graveside Service at 11:00 am at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Billy was born on July 3, 1938, in West, Texas to Roy and Faye Brannon. As a young child, his family moved to Post, and he graduated from Post High School in 1956. In 1955, he was working at the Chevrolet dealership, and that is where he met the love of his life, Margaret Steel.  They were married on January 19, 1957, at the Dermott Community Church in Dermott, Texas which started a marriage that would last 67 years and 21 days. He worked at the Post Textile Mill for a short while before attending Draughons Business School. He was soon offered a job at T. N. M. and O. Bus Lines and worked his way up to ticket agent and was there for 20 years. In 1993, he went to work as the Maintenance man at Slaton Care Center and retired in 2006. He enjoyed working outside and was happiest on his tractor. He loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents.

Billy is survived by his wife; his daughter, Lela Reagor and her husband, Tommy of Lubbock; his son, Tom Brannon and his wife, Amy of Dike, Texas; his brother, Charles Brannon and his wife, Donna of Dallas; his grandchildren, Crystal Callahan, Dusty Brannon, Stephanie Thompson and her husband, Michael, and their children, Krista and Macayla, Josh Hammond and his wife, Angela, and Jacob Stone and his wife, Abby; nine great-grandchildren and one on the way; and his dog, Shasta.
