Bruce Basinger,75, of Slaton, passed away Sunday May 21, 2023.
Viewing will be 11:00 am-5:30 pm Friday, May 26, 2023 at Englunds with a visitation following from 5:30-7:00 pm. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, May 27, 2023 at First Baptist Church in Slaton Interment will follow at Terrace Cemetery in Post. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Bruce was born March 24, 1948 in Slaton to William and Doris Basinger. He married Wyanza (Windham) Mock July 18, 1997 in Slaton. He was a cotton ginner in El Campo for many years before coming home to Slaton and ginning in Wilson. He rebuilt the gin in Burton, Texas, the oldest operating cotton gin in America which is now home of the historic Texas Cotton Gin Museum. Bruce was active in helping his children and granddaughter with their sheep showing and was well known among stock show circles in Texas. He loved hunting, fishing, and riding his Harley, and watching the Dallas Cowboys. He never met a stranger, never forgot a face, and always had a tall tale to share.
He is preceded in death by his parents.
Bruce is survived by his wife; his daughters, Rebecca Basinger of Slaton, Renee Acosta of Austin and ReNell Smith and her husband, Rendell of Lubbock; his sons, Douglas Basinger of Round Rock, Garry Don Basinger of Madisonville and Russell Mock and his wife, Misty of Post; his sisters, Sylvia Little and her husband, Tom of San Antonio, Marilyn Johnson and her husband, Larry of Hondo and Michelle Bieker and her husband, Mark of Tomball; his grandchildren, Colby Walker, Cephyre Echohawk, Kayla, Micah, Evan and Anna Basinger, Ashley Stephens, Jordan Patterson, Kassidy and Kamden Acosta, Kaleb and Kia Auldridge and Kaden Mock; his great grandchildren, Tristan and Adeline Stephens and Thea Elders; and his dogs, Gidget and Sadie.
