Byron Bowie, 84, of Slaton, passed away on Monday, February 10, 2025.
Visitation will be 12:30 pm -2:00 pm Thursday, February 13, 2025, at Englunds Chapel, followed by Funeral Services at 2:00 pm. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Byron was born on May 6, 1940, in Westminster to Earl and Bessie Bowie. While attending Lubbock High School, he spotted Mary Ann at his uncle’s grocery store. He got her number, and 2 months later, the 16-year-olds were married on March 27, 1957, and were married for nearly 67 years. He worked as a mechanic for over 45 years. Byron loved old cars, at one time owning the fastest car in Lubbock County. He was also a musician and once played with Buck Owens.
He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Mary Ann Bowie, his daughter, Renea Hopper, and his brothers, Lawrence and Jimmy Bowie.
Byron is survived by his sons, B. L. Bowie, Jr. of San Angelo, and Earl Bowie of Slaton; ten grandchildren; and twenty-one great-grandchildren.
