Carl A. Lewis Jr. 87, of Slaton, passed away Saturday, August 22, 2020.
Vigil will be at 6:00 pm Tuesday, August 25, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Wednesday, August 26, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Due to social distancing and seating on every other pew, seating is limited. Mask are required in the church.
Carl was born April 10, 1933 in Slaton to Carl Sr. and Maurine Lewis. He graduated from Slaton High School in 1950. Carl attended Texas Tech University for two years before enlisting in the United States Army in 1953. He was stationed for three years at Fort Leonard Wood in Missouri. While training at Camp McCoy in Sparta, Wisconsin he met the love of his life, Connie Geier. They were married September, 15, 1954. They moved to Slaton in 1960. He worked for Dennis Brothers Printers for 37 years. During that time, he was awarded membership to the Master Printers of America. Over the years he also helped his son at his print shop in Slaton. Carl was an avid golfer and enjoyed taking care of his yard. He loved music and loved to dance. Carl enjoyed giving nicknames to the special people in his life.
He is preceded in death by his parents and baby sister Mildred Elizabeth Lewis.
Carl is survived by his wife, Connie of Slaton; his daughter, Linda Symank and husband, Steve of Olney; his sons, Mike and wife, Betsy of Plainview, Al of Slaton, Brad and wife, Kari of Slaton, Kevin and wife, Nancy of Plainview, Pat and wife Averi of Lubbock; grandchildren, Matt Symank and wife Jennifer, Nathan Symank and wife, Amber, Eric Symank and wife, Jamie, Brian Lewis and wife, Shelby, Amanda Johnson and husband, Chad, Allyson Wall and husband, Dustin, Staci Lewis and fiancé, Edward Cardenas, Lindsay Steffens and husband, Justin, Kristin Huber and husband, Adrian, Kelcee Heinrich and husband, Kaleb, Thatcher Lewis, Tessa Lewis and 26 great grandchildren.
