Christina Villanueva Mendez, 56, of Slaton, was called to her heavenly home on  Sunday, July 13, 2025.

Viewing will be 11am-6pm, on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, at Englunds Chapel, followed by a Rosary Service at 6pm. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Thursday, July 17, 2025, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton. Cremation to follow.

Christina was born on Sept. 6, 1968 to Esteban “Steve” Villanueva Sr. and Emma Collazo Villanueva, in Lubbock. She attended Roosevelt ISD. Christina was a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton. She was a Guadalupana and a Crusillista. She was a fan of the Dallas Cowboys. She volunteered for Slaton Meals on Wheels, Cathelene Thomas Elementary PTA and the OLG CCE program. Christina loved her family and enjoyed spending time with them, especially her children and grandchildren. Christina will be missed dearly.

She was preceded in death by her father Steve; a daughter, Crystal Jane Mendez; a granddaughter, Heavenly Jo-Angel Mendez (Sanders); a brother, Martin; and two sisters, Martha Cavazos and Susana Salcedo.

Those left to cherish her memory are Joe Martinez, her fiancée of Slaton; her mother, Emma Villanueva; sons, Joseph Mendez, Nicholas Mendez (Bri) and Justin Mendez of Lubbock, Fabian Mendez (Esmeralda) and Jeremiah Mendez of Houston; daughters, Monica Mendez of Slaton, Brenda Mendez of Corpus Christi and Krista Mendez of Lubbock; 19 grandchildren and two great grandchildren and one on the way. Also her siblings, Esteban “Steve” Villanueva Jr. of Round Rock, Jesse Ray Villanueva and Fabian Villanueva of Rockdale, David Moreno of Smyer, Leno Moreno of Lubbock, Patricio Villanueva of Plainview, Joe Flores Jr. of Fort Worth, Alma Villanueva and Ramon Villanueva of Ralls, Dolores Armendariz of Lubbock, Gloria Olivares of Farwell, Beatrice Ables of Abernathy, James Villanueva of Slaton, Hilario Villanueva of Wolfforth and her in-laws, Deacon Juan Cavazos of Smyer, Pedro Salcedo of Rockdale and Mandy Villanueva of Lubbock.
