Conalee “Connie” Lewis, 91, of Slaton, passed away on Wednesday, October 29, 2025.

Viewing and Rosary Service will be at 5:00 pm Sunday, November 2, 2025 at Englunds Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Monday, November 3, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Connie was born on November 4, 1933, the ninth child of Basilius Geier and Frances Rondorf Geier.  She was born on the home farm near Cashton, Wisconsin.  All 6 brothers and 6 sisters were born at home, which were dairy farms where the family made their living. 

Connie was proud to be from a large family and often said, “We didn’t have a lot of money or material things but always lots of love and faith.”  Religion was an important part of their lives.

After graduating from high school in Wilton, Wisconsin, in 1951, she went to work as a waitress in Sparta, Wisconsin, then later worked at Walgreens Drug in the same city.  It was while working here that she met her husband, Carl, in 1954.  He was in the Army stationed at Ft. McCoy, near Sparta.  On September 15, 1954, they were united in marriage at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church in Norwalk, Wisconsin.  Later, they moved to Ft. Leonardwood, Missouri, where Carl was honorably discharged in 1955. They moved to La Crosse, Wisconsin, and lived there for 5 years, then moved to Slaton, Texas, in September 1959.  Their 2 oldest sons were born in Wisconsin.

Connie was a wife and Mom to their 6 children.  She said they were the busiest and happiest time of her life but loved every minute of it.  She worked during the lunch hour at St. Joseph Cafeteria at different times.  She started her job as a secretary and bookkeeper for their son’s printing business in 1973.  She was a people person and loved working with the public.  Carl and Connie loved to dance and could be seen at most of the dances in and around the area.  The outdoors was her haven in her spare time.

What fun to pack up the station wagon with 6 kids and travel to my home state!  Thank you, God, for a wonderful life --- what a ride!

Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, 6 brothers and 5 sisters.

She is survived by her children, Mike (Betsy), Al, Linda (Steve), Brad (Kari), Kevin (Nancy) and Patrick (Averi); her 12 grandchildren, Brian, Amanda, Allyson, Staci, Lindsay, Matt, Nathan, Eric, Kristin, Kelcee, Thatcher and Tessa; 29 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Berdella Butzler.

Connie had recently stated that she would like donations to the charity of the donor’s choice.
