Cruz Arellano, 76, of Slaton, passed away Monday, September 14, 2020.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm Friday, September18, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Saturday, September 19, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Slaton. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Due to social distancing and seating on every other pew, seating is limited. Mask are required in the church.
Cruz was born March 29, 1944 in Austin to Lupe and Estella Arellano. He grew up in the New Home and Wilson area. Cruz started farming at an early age and then went to work for Sears, working in the tire department. He later became a mechanic. Cruz married Paula Torres in 1976 and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage. In 1981, he bought the Texaco Service Station in Slaton, eventually changing the name to Highway 84 Service Station. In 1996 he started making breakfast burritos and they were very popular in Slaton area. Cruz never met a stranger. He loved spending time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his brothers, Lupe Arellano Jr., Pete Arellano; and step daughter Diana Todd.
Cruz is survived by his wife, Paula; his daughters, Felicia Arellano and Beatrice Delarosa and her husband Daniel; his sons, Isaac Arellano and his wife Ashley, Adrian Arellano and his wife Mary, Paul Arellano, and Chris Arellano; stepdaughters, Sylvia Chagolla and Sue Garcia; stepsons, Oscar Garcia and Adolfo Garcia; his sisters, Juanita Sepeda and Mary Arellano; his brothers, Johnny Arellano and his wife Kay and Tony Arellano and his wife Eva; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
