Donna Cornell Obituary
Donna Ruth Cornell, beloved wife, mother, grandmother (Grammy), and friend, passed away on November 9, 2024, at the age of 76.
She was born on December 6, 1947, in Lubbock, Texas, to Bill Hood and Alline McJimsey. Donna’s life was a testament to love, dedication, and the bonds of family. She touched many hearts, and her memory will live on through her family and all who knew her.
A proud graduate of Monterey High School, Donna met the love of her life, Donnie Cornell, while attending Texas Tech University. They were married in April 1968, and their love story spanned more than five decades. Throughout their life together, they were blessed with two sons, whom Donna deeply loved.
Donna’s life was rich with memories of family, friends, and meaningful experiences. In her younger years, she was an active member of the Will Rogers Range Riders and a proud participant, riding horses in the drill team. Many happy times were spent with fellow members, creating lasting friendships and making memories she would treasure forever. Donna also enjoyed being part of a bowling league and contributed her time and energy to helping at the Lubbock State School.
Donna was a vital force in the family business, where she played an instrumental role in keeping everyone on track and ensuring things ran smoothly. However, her greatest joy came from spending time with her family. As "Grammy," she was fiercely proud of her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She would eagerly share stories of their accomplishments with anyone who would listen. Donna’s love for her family knew no bounds, and she cherished every moment spent with them.
Donna was preceded in death by her father, Billy Joe Hood; her mother and stepfather, Alline and Robert McJimsey; her son, Trent Cornell; and her siblings, Terry Hood, Debby Furr, and Denise Hood.
She leaves behind her loving husband, Donnie Cornell of Post; her son, Clint Cornell and wife Shannon of Claude, Texas; her cherished grandchildren, Jessie Bevill and husband Hunter, Devin Cornell and wife Kaylan, and Bradley Cornell and wife Kelli; eight beloved great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; her step-sister, Sue DiLillo; brother-in-law, Charles Furr; and a niece and nephew who were dear to her heart. Donna was also blessed to be survived by two additional brothers-in-law and their wives and families, who were also important parts of her life.
