Dorothy Jean Webb Obituary
Dorothy Jean Webb, 93, of Greenville, formerly of Lubbock, passed away on January 5, 2024.
Funeral services will be 10:30 am Wednesday, January 10, 2024, at Englunds Chapel. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Dorothy was born on August 9, 1930, in Searcy, Arkansas. She was raised by her mother, Veronia Selvidge Barnes and her father, Calvin Barnes. She graduated from Searcy High School in 1947 and attended Harding University. Dorothy went to work at the Sports Center downtown in 1948 that was owned by Goober Keys and Sam West. As manager of the Embroidery and Lettering department, she took care of all the lettering and patches on jackets and banners and even worked on the uniforms for Texas Tech football, basketball, and baseball. She worked there for over 44 years and retired in 1964. The Sports Center would later become Cardinal’s Sport Center. She was a professional seamstress who could sew all kinds of clothing and enjoyed teaching sewing as well. Dorothy was a lifetime member of the F. F. A. and an avid square dancer and a founding member of Solo Squares.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Robert Collins and Donald Cantrell.
Dorothy is survived by her sons, Samual Joe Webb and his wife, Lori of Greenville, and Robert Webb; three grandchildren, Dillon Thomas Webb of Greenville, Phillip Ross Webb of Tempe, Arizona, and Tony Curry of Alpine; and 4 great-grandchildren.
