Billy Douglas “Doug” Grimes, 89, of Lubbock, passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025.

Viewing will be 9:30-10:00am Saturday, May 3, 2025 at Englunds, during the 9:30-10:30am visitation, followed by a 10:30am Funeral Service in Englunds Chapel. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Doug Grimes was born in Rosebud, Texas, on June 23, 1935 to W. E. “Bill” and Mary Ruth Grimes.  They moved to the oil fields of eastern New Mexico when Doug was a youngster, and he grew up in Jal.  He attended Jal High School and was an outstanding athlete in four sports as well as serving as student body president.  He graduated in 1954.

He attended Hardin-Simmons University and Eastern New Mexico University where he played football and baseball.  He met Myra Hogan in college, and they were married on June 4, 1956.  He became a Christian as a young teenager and was a member of First Baptist Church, Roosevelt.  He was also a 32nd degree Mason of almost 60 years.

Doug was a long-time owner of wholesale fuel businesses in Monahans and Midland.  He has been a resident of the Lubbock area for the past 12 years, moving from Midland.

Doug is survived by his wife Myra; his son Johnny and wife Melissa, their son Hunter and his wife Laura and their son Jasper, their daughter Annie; his grandson Blaine and his wife Shannon and their daughters Stacy, Aila and Nora.  He is also survived by his brother Donald N. Grimes.

He was preceded in death by a son, Billy Don; his parents; his sister-in-law; and his Jal High School teammates.
