Dwayne Walters, 96, of Slaton (Lubbock since 2018), passed away Friday, September 23, 2022.
Viewing will be 12:00-1:00 pm Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Englunds. A Celebration Gathering complete with finger foods will be 1:00-2:45 Sunday, September 25, 2022 at Hearts Together Church of Christ in Slaton followed by a Graveside Service at 3:00 pm at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Dwayne was born on August 5, 1926 in Wilson to Fred A.M. and Cordie Irene Miller Walters. He graduated from Slaton high school May 19, 1945 and married Billie Jean Williams in October of 1945 in Slaton. Dwayne was drafted into the U. S. Army and left for Anchorage, AK two days after graduation, where he served 2 years. He was discharged in December of 1947 and returned to Slaton and went to work for Slaton Bakery until 1952 when he went to work for Baldridge Bakery until they sold in 1971. Then he went to work for White Swan in sales until retirement in 1999. He enjoyed his retirement working with his son at King’s Highway Charters and Tours, but his favorite pastime was telling stories.
Dwayne is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie Jean; and his daughter, Sharon K. Walters Barnhill.
Dwayne is survived by his sons, Tom Walters and his wife, Vickie of Wolfforth and Allen Walters and his wife, Katy of Moriarty, NM; his sister, Billie Gamble of Slaton; 9 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; and 26 great-great-grandchildren.
