Edna Fern Morrow was born on May 26, 1928 to Elbert Arthur and Rheta Nell (Minnick) Bright in Trent, TX. She passed from this life on July 28, 2022 in Slaton, TX at the age of 94. She married William Melvin Morrow on March 21, 1946 while he was stationed at a naval base in California.
In her early marriage years, her husband was a preacher for small congregations in northwestern Kansas and in the Artesia and Carlsbad, NM area. She served the families in the congregation wherever she went, sewing for others, giving home permanents, serving meals and also being a loving mother to their five children.
With most of the children off to college, she and Melvin returned to the family roots in Carlsbad, NM. She found a job in a plumbing shop owned by a member of the church and worked there for 35 years, retiring at the age of 83.
Edna and Melvin cruised every year and visited many foreign countries and traveled to all 50 states. After her first cruise, she decided she needed to learn how to swim if she was going to be in the middle of all that water. She hired a tutor and after that she got up at 5:30 every morning to swim a half mile at the natatorium. She swam 100 miles a year for many years.
After the passing of her husband, the kids moved her to Slaton, TX where she attended the Hearts Together Church of Christ and was loved by many.
She enjoyed making quilts for the Project Linus club which donates quilts and blankets for children in the hospital. She still used her treadle Singer sewing machine to sew the blocks together.
Edna is survived by her children: Randy Morrow and wife Denise of Trenton, TX; Shari Hamilton and husband John of Lamar, MO; Lorna Smith and her husband Jim of Lubbock, TX; Norvin Morrow and wife Donna of Elizabeth, CO; and Karen Horn and husband Dennis of Slaton, TX; her sister Carol McKissick and husband Ted of Belton, TX; her brother Joe Bright of Melrose, NM; many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
