Eloisa Garces Martinez, 77, of Slaton, passed away on Tuesday, May 26, 2026.

Celebration of Mass will be Monday, June 1, 2026 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lubbock.  Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Eloisa was born in Runge, Texas on September 18, 1948 to Trino and Maria Garces.  She grew up in Sinton and met Luis Martinez, and they were married in Pueblo, CO. on September 27, 1967, and they moved to Slaton.

She worked for Jack Rogers at Barcelona Courts for 27 years and retired when he sold the property. Then she worked at University Medical Center for about 8 years before retiring for good, giving her more time to take care of her grandkids.

Eloisa was an active member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Lubbock and also served as a Guadalupana.  She was a very faithful woman who prayed unceasingly for her family and friends and was a huge source of encouragement for those around her.  If you walked through her door, you were family.  She was a great mother-in-law and loved her diet cokes.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Library of Legacies in Slaton for the wonderful way they took care of her. The family also would like to thank   Maggie Castro for her care and help during this difficult journey.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Luis; her sisters, Dora and Jenny Garces; and her brothers, Daniel, Arnulfo and Ramiro Garces.

Eloisa is survived by her daughters, Mary Jane Gaydos and her husband, Mark of Slaton, Elizabeth Martinez of Slaton, and Jennifer Martinez of Lubbock; her son, Leroy Martinez and his wife, Heather of Midland; her sister, Ofelia Guzman and her husband, Alfred of Lubbock; her brothers, Reymundo Garces and his wife, Annette of Lubbock, Reynaldo Garces and his wife, Irene of Wilson, and Eddie Garces and his wife, Yolanda of Ft. Worth; her grandchildren, Brad and his wife, Amy Gaydos, Melissa Barrera and her husband, Bobby, Lacy Corley and her husband, Aaron, Courtney Martinez, Tesla Martinez, Thomas Martinez and his wife, Myrka, Jacob “Champion” Luna, and Mariah Rendon; and her great-grandchildren, Kamryn Barrera, Derek “Big Boy” Barrera, Dellin Barrera, Zac Gaydos, Jaxon Gaydos, Alexa Gaydos, Brystol Corley, Paisley Donalson, Aubree “Cricket” Martinez, Memphis Austin, Layne Austin, Rawlings Barton, Emilina Martinez, and Oakley Martinez.
