Evelyn Valdez (46), beloved daughter, sister, and aunt, passed from this life on October 8, 2025.

Viewing will be from 11-6 on Monday, October 13, 2025 at Englunds Chapel. A rosary will be recited at 6:00 p.m. at Englunds Chapel. Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, October 14, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.

Evelyn was a lifelong Slatonite who was born at Mercy Hospital in Slaton on May 9, 1979 to Concepcion Valdez Jr. and Mary Ann Valdez. She grew up attending Slaton schools and graduated from Slaton High School in 1997. She attended Texas Tech for a few years before she embarked on a lifelong career with AT&T.

She was a wonderful, caring aunt to not only her nieces and nephews but to many children she encountered throughout her life. Her loyalty was unwavering not only to the children but to anyone who was her family or friend. Most of her friendships spanned decades because of the kindness and support she always showed. 

Evelyn had a servant’s heart, never asking for anything but always finding ways to give to others. It is with her sacrifices and support that her family members were able to find success and achievement. She could be found at any Slaton sporting event, but she truly loved watching baseball. She will be deeply missed by the vast number of people she impacted throughout her life. 

Although Evelyn never had children of her own, one of the greatest joys of her life was helping to raise Abigail Garcia. In Abigail, she found the love and purpose that completed her life. 

Evelyn is preceded in death by her mother, Mary Ann Valdez. 

She is survived by her father, Jr. Valdez; sisters, Elisa Rocha (Edward) of Midland, Annette Garcia (Raymond) of Slaton, Ester Valdez of Midland, Michelle Contreras (Javier Palacios) of Lubbock, Jessica Garcia (Luis) of Slaton, and Vianey Gatica (Joe) of Slaton; and many nieces and nephews.
