Gary Brush, 76, of Slaton, passed away on Friday, October 4, 2024.

Viewing will be 10-5, Wednesday, October 9, 2024, at Englunds. Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm, Thursday, October 10, 2024, at First Baptist Church in Slaton. Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Gary was born on September 20, 1948, in Slaton to Richard Coke and Geneta Gerene Brush. He graduated from Slaton High School and attended West Texas State College, now University. While in high school and college, he played football, ran track, and pole vaulted. He was an exceptional athlete. He also rode bulls and broncs until his wife encouraged him to quit before she had a nervous breakdown. He married his high school sweetheart, Jan McCoy, on February 26, 1969. Soon after, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Reserves, where he served for 6 years. Gary also served his community as a volunteer firefighter. They were blessed with two daughters, Tammy and Brandi. Gary was self-employed and started his own business- Brush Plumbing, Heating and Air. Gary was also a craftsman, if you gave him a job with wood, he could construct whatever it was you had in mind. When he wasn’t busy, his passion was training and hauling race horses, really just being around horses in general. He was very involved with his grandkids and loved to support them in anything they did, including rodeos and ball games. Pop and his family thoroughly enjoyed trips to Ruidoso, holidays, and sleepovers at Mimi & Pops where Gary was always the one to cook breakfast for his family. & we can’t forget his best sidekick, foxy. Foxy hasn’t left his side for the last 10 years.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and his brother, Ricky Brush.

Gary is survived by his wife, Jan; his daughters, Tammy Sicola of Lubbock and Brandi Kennedy and her husband, B. J. of Levelland; his sister, Sandy Self of Amarillo; and his grandchildren, Cody Sicola and his wife, Huntyr, Dylan Sicola, Bristan McCarley and her husband, Cameron, Brecklyn Kennedy and Brolin Kennedy.
