George Gamble Obituary

George Samuel Gamble, was born January 31, 1928 to Mary Lula (Hampton) Gamble and George McDuff Gamble Jr. on the family farm near Slaton.

Funeral Services will be 10:00 AM Saturday, February 1, 2020 at Westview Baptist Church in Slaton.  Interment will follow in Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.  Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

George attended school at Union elementary and graduated in 1945 from the now Lubbock Cooper Independent Schools.  He helped organize Cooper Lions Club and worked in many activities throughout the years while his children attended Cooper schools where they graduated.

George married Billie Nadine (Walters) on June 5th, 1953.  He and Billie were charter members of Westview Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon, usher, church treasurer and worked with youth over the years until he became home bound following a stroke in August of 2013.  They continue to support their home church to this day.

George’s passion in life besides his family and Jesus was farming.  At the early age of 15, he taught himself to farm after his own father passed away when George was 9 and his brother Joe went off to serve in the Military.  He was born on the family farm and lived there until his passing.  His sons both farmed after George retired in 2002.

George was survived by his wife Billie of 66 1/2 years of Slaton; his son, Dale and his wife, Becky of Slaton; his daughter, Marilyn Gordon and her husband, Ernie of Austin; seven grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and dear family.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Joe Gamble; four sisters, LaVerne Speed, Ellen Eilenburger, Minnie V. Presley, Christine Day; and son, Randall Gamble.
