Grady Lamar Smith passed from this life on Thursday, November 14, 2024.  Lamar was born on February 12, 1956 to Grady and JoAnn Smith.  He lost his father to a farming accident on March 20, 1957 at 11 months old. He then lost his mother JoAnn in a terrible car accident on December 14, 1959. 

Lamar graduated from Slaton High School in 1974.  He married Noree Self on Friday December 13, 1974.  They were married 49 years, 11 months, and 1 day.  He had two wonderful children Dusty (wife Tiffany) and Kasey (husband Jason Harkins), and two grandkids Taya Sargent (husband Seth Sargent) and Degyn.  Lamar loved his kids and grandkids with his whole heart and absolutely loved watching them shine doing what they loved. 

            Lamar had great interest in motorcycles and driving fast cars.  He loved fishing with his uncles and cousins at Lake Amistad.  He also enjoyed teaching his kids, grandkids, nieces, nephews, and friends the joy of skiing and boating.  Lamar loved the lake and enjoyed the outdoors.  He was involved in the Slaton JCs and took up golfing later in life.  Lamar farmed from 1974 to 1999 and then worked at the Slaton Post Office unit 2020.  He and Noree moved to Buffalo Springs Lake in 2007. 

Lamar was loved by all of his friends, family, and all who crossed paths with him.  He was proceeded in death by his grandparents Judge Cooper and Eva Smith, Grady and Loraine Haliburton, parents William Grady Smith and Jo Ann Haliburton Smith Hogue and several aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Those left to cherish his love and memories are his wife of almost 50 years Noree Smith, son Dusty Smith and his wife Tiffany, Kasey Harkins and her husband Jason, granddaughter Taya Sargent and her husband Seth, grandson Degyn and numerous additional family members and friends.  Family suggests memorials to Buffalo Springs Lake Meals on Wheels, Buffalo Springs Lake Chruch, or your charity of choice.
