Harvey Hancock Obituary
Harvey Hancock 93 of Slaton passed peacefully at his home on Friday, July 18, 2025.
Visitation will be 5:30-7:00 pm, Tuesday, July 22nd, 2025, at Englunds Chapel. Funeral Service for Harvey will be at 10:30 AM Wednesday July 23, 2025, at Slaton Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton along with Masonic Services. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Harvey was born June 16th,1932, in Southland Texas, one of eight children born to Mr. Melton Fay Hancock and Mrs. Annie Mae Davies He was a 1951 graduate of Robertson High School, and upon graduation at the ripe age of 18 he was elected to the Robertson ISD School Board. Which was a start to what would later grow into a lifetime of community service.
In the Fall of 1952 Harvey asked the love of his life Mary Sue Ross to marry him. The two eloped to Portales New Mexico where they married-on September 21, 1952. Upon returning from Portales, Harvey and Sue settled on a farm close to Lorenzo, TX to begin their life together. Harvey and Sue shared over 50 years together before her passing in 2007.
Harvey spent a lifetime farming and ranching he had properties in Crosby, Hale, Lubbock, Garza and Dickens counties. While He loved cultivating the land and caring for his livestock. He also believed in cultivating the next generation and giving back to his community, for a time Harvey and Sue opened their home to foreign exchange students, some of whom have continued to be an extended part of the Hancock family. Harvey Served on the board for the Crosby County Soil and Water Conservation District, the Lorenzo ISD School Board, he also served as a member of the Lubbock Valley Scottish Rite and Kiva Shriners. Harvey was a 50 plus year Member of the Masonic Lodge and a 1978 Charter Member of the South Plains Daylight Lodge.
Harvey was preceded in death by; his parents, Melton Fay Hancock and Annie Mae Davies, Loving Wife Mary Sue Hancock, his Two Sons Timothy Lance and Tracy Don Hancock, Three Sisters Betty Nickell, Maxine Peoples, Ruby Alspaugh, Four brothers Millard, Wesley, Kyle and Horace Hancock.
He is survived by his Daughter Tonya Hancock and Life Partner Brandye Stennett of Lubbock, TX, Daughter -in-law Betty Hancock of Lubbock, TX, three Granddaughters, Tiffany Denton & Husband Michael of Lubbock TX, Danielle Huttenhoff & husband Joseph of Needville,TX, , Sara Jupe and Husband Eric of Lubbock, TX., three Great-Grand Children Zoey Burns, John Luke Huttenhoff, Morigan Huttenhoff, 3 Step Grandsons Brian Goss and Wife Robyn of Canyon, Michael Goss and Wife Jamie of Kress, TX Kevin Goss and Wife Jenanne of Tulia, TX 14 additional Step-Great-Grand Children. and Two Foreign exchange Students Beat Jaccottet & Family and Catharine Wentzel and Family.
