Harvey Leon Morton Obituary
Harvey Leon Morton, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away on May 20, 2026 at the age of 85.
Born on May 9, 1941, to Allen and Lenora Morton in Sylvester, Texas. Harvey carried his West Texas roots proudly throughout his life. He attended Roby High School, graduating in 1959, before continuing his education at McMurry College in Abilene, Texas. Harvey later earned his law degree from THE University of Texas of Austin, School of Law. Harvey was awarded the Lubbock County Bar Justice James G. Denton Distinguished Lawyer Award in 2013 – an accomplishment he treasured deeply and proudly shared with anyone willing to listen.
Harvey shared 61 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Betty “Cathy” Morton. Together they built a family rooted in faith, love, laughter, loyalty, and lifelong friendships.
He is survived by his sister, Brenda Breeden of Roby; wife Cathy and children Allison Pritchard (Cameron), Kimberly Morton Hendrix, and Philip Craig Morton (Shannon); his cherished grandchildren, Mallory Thomas and Brook Hendrix, Bryce, Brennan, and Elijah Morton; and his treasured great-grandchildren, Kye and Easton Thomas, Sebastian Hendrix, and Brayden and Harrison Vargas.
Harvey lived a life centered on faith, family, and community. He found great joy coaching women’s softball at St. Luke’s United Methodist Church many years ago, creating memories and friendships that lasted a lifetime. He was a devoted member of Second Baptist Church. He loved family vacations including camping trips with his grandsons, afternoons spent in the backyard pool with family, and opening his home for lively themed parties filled with dear friends, laughter, and fellowship.
He served the Lubbock community as a MHMR Board member and was also the Lubbock County Democratic Party Chairman for many years. Harvey served the West Texas community as an attorney in private practice for the City of Lubbock, the City of Slaton and surrounding communities. Harvey never met a stranger and deeply treasured the people around him.
The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Texas Tech University Health Sciences Surgery Department and the University Medical Center and its Hospice unit for their compassion, kindness, and generous care.
Harvey will be laid to rest in his hometown of Roby. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. There will be no viewing or visitation.
Harvey’s legacy of love, humor, devotion, and unwavering pride in his family will live on in all who knew him. He will be deeply missed, but the love he shared will be held in our hearts forever.
