Jim Porter peacefully entered into eternal rest March 1, 2021 at the age of 88.
The family of Jim Porter will host visitation from 4:00-6:00pm, March 5, at Englund’s Funeral Home. His family will celebrate his life of 88 years at 2:00pm on Saturday, March 6, 2021, at Lakeridge Methodist Chapel, followed by graveside service and burial at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.
Jim was born August 3, 1932 to Idellah and Claude Porter, in Slaton, TX. Jim worked for the Santa Fe Railroad as a telegrapher while he attended Texas Tech and later began his career with the State of Texas Comptrollers where he was an auditor for the state for 25 years. He married Marsa Dean Swope, August 22, 1955 and enjoyed 52 years of marriage. He was a proud devoted father of three children, Pam, Richard and Marinda.
Jim retired in 1985 and he and his wife, Marsa, loved to travel in their motor home and became snowbirds, spending the winter seasons in Phoenix, AZ. He was an avid golfer and you could find him on the golf course two or three times a week.
Jim married Barbara Ellen Agner February 12, 2010 and they enjoyed spending time in Phoenix and Colorado. He is proceeded in death by his parents, wife, Marsa Porter, son Richard Mark Porter, and sister, Kay Yates. He is survived by his wife Barbara Agner, two daughters, Pam Porter of Carrollton and Marinda Heinrich and husband Doug of Lubbock, grandchildren Holden Heinrich and Madison Heinrich, niece, Molly Yates Stefan and nephew, Porter Yates.
