Dwight was born on October 25, 1938 in Hatchel, Texas to James Edward and Nona Mae Davis. He graduated from Rocksprings High School. After spending some time “cowboying” in Pinedale Wyoming, Dwight joined the Marine Reserves and achieved the rank of Corporal while attending Texas Tech University. It was during this time that he met Judy, and they were married on June 23, 1966. They enjoyed 58 years together.
Dwight always stepped up when his boys needed a baseball or football little league coach. He and Judy also drove countless miles to attend their six grandsons’ sporting events. They also traveled across the United States and Canada visiting all 50 states and seeing their capitals. Much of their travel occurred during his career as a safety engineer in the insurance industry. Dwight was a long-time member of the Masonic Lodge, and he faithfully served as a trustee at the Slaton Methodist Church.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Judy; his son, Waylon; his sister, Barbara Helen Smith and brother-in-law, Jim; and his stepfather, Horace Davis.
Dwight is survived by his son, Bill Davis and his wife, Lavonne of Tomball; his daughter-in-law, Kim Davis of Lubbock; sisters-in-law, Jacque Davidson and her husband, John Craig of Slaton, Joanne Lancaster of Slaton and Linda Thomas of Hot Springs Village, AR.; his grandchildren (who affectionately knew Dwight as Pepaw) Hunter, Nolan, Garrett, William, and Weston Davis, and James Weckwerth; and his great-grandchildren, Audrey and Henry Weckwerth.
In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to: Slaton Methodist Church or the Texas Girls & Boys Ranch.
