John Mark Thornbury, 68, of Lubbock, passed away on Saturday, March 22, 2025.

Viewing will be from 1-6:00 pm on Wednesday, March 26, 2025, followed by a visitation from 6-7:00 pm at Englunds.  Funeral Services will be at 2:00 pm on Thursday, March 27, 2025 at Englunds Chapel. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.  Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Mark was born in Quanah, Texas on November 10, 1956 to John and Shirley Thornbury.  He lived in Lubbock until June, 1963 when he moved to Slaton and attended Slaton public schools graduating in 1976.  Mark loved Jesus, his family, and everyone he met.  He saved notes, cards, and programs from events and from others all the way back to his childhood.  Mark worked more than 30 years for Smith South Plains and more than 10 years for United Supermarkets in Slaton.  At the end of the day, he loved telling the stories of the day to his parents about his interactions with the people.  Mark succumbed to Lewy Body Dementia Parkinsonian type on March 22, 2025.  The family are very grateful for the kindness and care provided to Mark by Bender Terrace Nursing and Rehabilitation Center and later Mesquite Post Acute Care in Lubbock.

Mark is survived by his mother, his sister Kathleen McCutchan, his aunts, uncles, and many cousins, all of whom held a very special place in his heart.  His father passed in 2017. Mark had many friends from his childhood, his work, and from Trinity Church where he was a member for 50 years.
