Katy Lorene Rowan Obituary

Services for Katy Rowan, 99, of the Acuff Community, will be Wednesday, April 15, 10:30am in Englunds Chapel with Darren Weaver officiating. Interment will be in Englewood Cemetery under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton. Visitation will be Tuesday evening from 6 to 7:30 at Englunds.

Katy Lorene (Bassinger) Rowan was born on Friday, May 21, 1926 to Nettie Faye (Lipps) and James LeRoy Bassinger on the farm south of Acuff, Texas. She attended McClung school and graduated from Roosevelt High School in 1943.

She married Earl Rowan in August of 1944 and after the war, they both attended Hardin Simmons University in Abilene and she graduated in 1949. They moved to San Benito where she taught and Earl coached.

In 1955, they moved back to the farm where she was born. Katy loved being on the farm as homemaker to their three children and Earl. She taught school from 1968 to 1972. She was an excellent seamstress, cook, raised a garden, loved to crochet -and was always involved with her church, teaching G.A.’s and Sunday school. When they were empty nesters, they loved to travel in their motorhome. Grandkids and Great Grands loved going to Grandmom’s. Her sign that read “What happens at Grandmom’s – stays at Grandmom's” said it all.

Katy will be missed terribly but those she leaves behind know they will meet again because of the promise Jesus made on the cross. Earl preceded her in death in 2009 after 64 years of marriage.

Katy is survived by her children, Roy and wife Julie of Rockwall, Brenda Pfluger and husband Craig of Eden, Tricia Englund and husband Robert of Ransom Canyon, grandchildren, Tanner and wife Krista Pounds, Tracy and wife Hollie Pounds, Elinor and husband Jordan Yotter, Vance Rowan, Andrew and wife Grace Rowan, Josh Pfluger, Krystal and Ryan Scott and great grandchildren, Gage, Halle Jo, Gentry, Coley, August, Matilda and Ruby.

The family wants to especially thank the girls and residents at Library of Legacies for all the care, compassion and fun that made a life better and easier.

Memorials maybe made to Slaton First Baptist Church, Slaton Meals on Wheels or charity of your choice.

Katy passed from this life on April 10, 2026 at the age of 99 years, 10 months and 20 days.
