Leon Pinkert, 89, of Slaton passed away Tuesday, September 26, 2023.
Visitation services are scheduled for 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday, October 4, 2023, at the Englunds. Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Thursday, October 5, 2023, at Bible Baptist Church in Slaton, with Pastor Chris Downer and Rev. Lance Pinkert officiating. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service.
Leon was born on February 14, 1934, in Slaton to Albert and Josephine Pinkert. He graduated from Slaton High School in 1952.He married Barbara Cantwell on July 5, 1963, and she passed away in 2000. Then he married Maria Rodriguez in 2005 and she passed away on October 12, 2016. Leon was a lifelong farmer of cotton and alfalfa. He did custom hay bailing and owned Pinkert’s Carriage Service and he never retired. He was also a member of the Slaton Riding Club in the 60s and was a founding member of The Llano Estacado Buggy Club in 1988 and was still active. He was also a member of Trinity Church in Lubbock.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Josephine Pinkert; his two sisters, Dora Pinkert; Regina Van Den Berge; three brothers, Frank, Henry, and Herbert Pinkert; his wife, Barbara Pinkert; his second wife, Maria Pinkert; and his son, Gregory Pinkert.
Survivors include his son, Dan Pinkert of Anchorage, Alaska; his two daughters, Rhonda Abston (Russell) of Slaton; Shawn Crawford (Sid) of Synder; his daughter-in-law, Leigh Ann Pinkert of Slaton; and a host of family members and dear friends.
