Manuela Benavides Perez passed away to Eternal Life on September 12, 2021, at the tender age of 96 years.

Rosary will be said at 6:00 pm, Wednesday, September 15, 2021 at Englunds. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am, Thursday, September 16, 2021 at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton. At the family’s request, please wear a mask at funeral home and church.   Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton.

She was fondly known to many as Meme or Mamie. She was born on May 12, 1925 to Eusebio and Rosa Benavides in Georgetown, TX. She married Jesus D. Perez on December 7, 1940. They celebrated 64 years of marriage at the time of his death in 2005. Their union was blessed by their daughter Carmen, and their sons Jesus, Francisco and Stevan. They made their home in Slaton, TX in 1948.

Manuela was deeply rooted in the Catholic faith given to her at baptism. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Guadalupe in Slaton, TX where she and Jesus contributed their efforts in its early years of establishment and thereafter.

She is survived by her children, Carmen and Macario Cisneros, Francisco Perez, and Stevan Perez; grandchildren Sylvia and Ismael Rubio, Suzanna Cisneros, Angelique Perez, Nora Perez, and Francisco and Ann Perez, Jr.; 17 great grandchildren and 7 great-great grandchildren; her sister Audelia Garcia, and nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband, son Jesus Perez, Jr., granddaughter Norma Perez; brothers Maximo Benavides, Ernesto Benavides, Zaragoza Benavides, Eusebio Benavides (infant), Eusebio Benavides; sisters Rafaela Rendon, Reyes Perez, and Felis Flores.

Manuela lived through eras like the Great Depression and World War II. Difficult times shaped her into a resourceful woman who knew hard work dictated whether their family had food or other necessities. She will be remembered for her work ethic and love for her family. Manuela was grateful for the years God granted her and humbled by the blessings bestowed upon her. For those of us who had the privilege to be a part of her life, the true blessing is all ours.

The family suggest memorials be made to Slaton Meals on Wheels.
