Margaret Helen (Kitten) Melcher passed away March 28, 2025 after celebrating her 94th Birthday with her children and other family members. 

Visitation will be 10:00-11:00 am Thursday, April 3, 2025 at Englunds Chapel, followed by a Graveside Service at 11:00 am at Englewood Cemetery. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

She was born to Frank and Marie Kitten on March 28, 1931.  She married Johnny Bernard Melcher on January 2, 1951.  He preceded her in death August 25, 2005 after having 54 wonderful years together.

Margaret graduated from Lubbock Cooper High School in 1948.  She was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Slaton, TX, along with the Catholic Daughters of America.  She was a member of the Women’s Chamber of Commerce in Slaton and served as Director for 3 years, along with being named Citizen of the Month.  Margaret was a substitute teacher for 12 years.  She had a passion for music and dancing and loved to sing.

Margaret is survived by her brothers, Henry Kitten and Roy Kitten; her sons, David and wife, Brenda, Les and wife, Dianne, Troy and wife, Michelle; her daughter, Darla Voigt and husband, Van; 9 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.   She is preceded in death by her husband, Johnny; her parents, Frank and Marie Kitten; her sisters, Mary Frances Kitten, Mildred Warren, Coleen Bednarz; and her brothers, Andrew, Franklin, and Alvin.

The family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the special staff at Interim Hospice and Crown Point Health Suites for their compassionate care of Margaret over the past months.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to Slaton Senior Citizen’s Center, 230 W. Lynn Street, Slaton, TX  79364
