Margaret Phillips Obituary

On May 27, 2020, Margaret Phillips, loving mother and grandmother went to be with the Lord at the age of 86. She was born September 10, 1933 in Wynnewood, OK to Johnnie and Pearl Dunkin. She attended Oakdale School and grew up pulling cotton with her family. In 1951, she accepted a marriage proposal from LT “Buddy” Phillips and promised to wait two years until he was old enough to marry her. In 1953, she made good on her promise and they married.  Shortly after, they moved to Slaton, TX and began their family. She loved quilting and cooking for her family and would feed anyone they brought home for dinner. She was known for her quick wit, great sense of humor, ruthless domino playing skills, love for her family, and love for God.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; sister, Betty Joe Dunkin; and granddaughter. Amber West.

She is survived by her daughter, Venita Hamilton of Slaton, TX; son, Billy Phillips and wife, Pam of Slaton, TX; brother, Donald Dunkin and wife, Brenda of Sallisaw, OK; sisters, Maxine Baumgardner and husband, Junior of Sulphur, OK and Wynnie Buchanan and husband, Art of Oklahoma City, OK; eight grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Due to social distancing, her funeral service was held for her family on May 30, 2020 at First Baptist Church in Slaton, where she was a member. She was buried next to her husband in Englewood Cemetery.
