Maria Escobar, 87, of Slaton, passed away on Thursday, October 3, 2024.

Viewing will be 11am-6pm, Monday, October 7, 2024, followed by a Rosary Service at 6:00 pm, at Englunds Chapel. Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 am Tuesday, October 8, 2024, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton.  Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Maria was born on April 1, 1937, in Waelder to Remigio and Dolores Esparza. Her family decided to move to West Texas in the 1940’s and chose Slaton as their home. She married Julio Escobar in 1953, and they raised 7 children together.   She enjoyed meeting neighbors and people at church and was helpful to everyone. She was faithful to pray the rosary for family and friends, especially when someone was sick. Later on, after retirement, they enjoyed playing bingo. She also enjoyed cooking meals on the holidays with all her sons and daughter as a family.  She was an active member of the Guadalupanas for years, as well as a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton.

She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Julio; her sons, Alex and Christobal Escobar; her granddaughter, Leticia Escobar, five sisters; and six brothers.

Maria is survived by her daughter, Ofelia Hinojosa of Lubbock; her sons, Hilberto of Slaton, Rudy Escobar and his wife, Yvonne of Lubbock, Ruben Escobar and his wife Antonia of Lubbock, and Steve Escobar and his wife, Lupe of Slaton; 15 grandchildren; 53 great-grandchildren; and 7 great-great-grandchildren.
