Mary Helen Solis Obituary

Mary Helen Solis, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and faithful servant to her family and community, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her loved ones

A viewing and service is planned for March 6, 2026, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service in Slaton, Texas.

Mary Helen was the beloved wife of the late Alfonso “Poncho” Solis Sr. Caring for him with patience, strength, and unwavering love was one of the greatest callings of her life. Her heart for service extended far beyond her home. She dedicated many years to working for the Slaton Independent School District and the South Plains Food Bank. Always ensuring that children, families, and neighbors were treated with dignity and compassion.

In Slaton, Mary Helen was known not just by name, but for her loving heart. She faithfully prepared and served countless breakfast burritos to generations of the town’s young athletes during youth league soccer and flag football—fueling early mornings, big games, and lifelong memories. To many, her food was comfort, encouragement, and love wrapped in foil.

Cooking was her true passion. Mary Helen found joy in preparing fresh, hot, and delicious “comidas” for her family and friends. Her kitchen was the heart of countless family gatherings, celebrations, and everyday moments that became cherished memories. No one ever left her home hungry—physically or spiritually.

More than anything, Mary Helen’s life was defined by service: her husband; her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; and her community. She gave quietly, loved deeply, and lived faithfully. Her legacy lives on in every life she touched, every meal she shared, and every act of kindness she offered without hesitation.

Mary Helen was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Alfonso “Poncho” Solis Sr.; her sister, Brenda Jimenez; her brother, David Ben Jimenez; and her father, David Jimenez.

She is survived by her children: Joe Jimenez (Yolanda Jimenez), Alfonso Solis Jr. (Vanesa Solis), Trine Jackson (William Jackson), Oscar Solis (Leticia Solis), and Juan Pablo “J.P.” Solis (Jessica Valdez); her grandchildren: Joe Albert Jimenez, Marcos Jimenez, Julie Martinez, Breanna Boyer, Madasyn Solis, Aliana Solis, Jameson Jackson, Jazmyn Jackson, Thalia Solis, Luke Solis, Elijah Solis, Micheal Solis, Gabriel Solis, Allison Solis, Xavier Ramirez, and Gabriella Ramirez; and her great-grandchildren: Aria Santos, Jalen Monroe Jackson, and Aiden Jesus Salazar.

She also leaves behind numerous compadres, godchildren, nieces, nephews, and lifelong friends who will forever cherish her memory.
