Matiana “Mae” Gonzales, 75, of Slaton, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 3, 2023.
Viewing will be from 11-5 p.m. Monday, April 10, 2023, at Englunds in Slaton followed by a Rosary Service at 6 p.m. at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church in Slaton. Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 11, 2023, also at Our Lady of Guadalupe. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Mae was born April 14, 1947, in Zapata, Texas, to Marcelino and Matiana Gonzalez. She graduated from Slaton High School, and married Severo Gonzales of Slaton on August 22, 1970, at Our Lady of Guadalupe. She started her banking career shortly after high school at Citizens Bank in Slaton and continued working in the banking industry until her retirement in 2012. She was a proud, lifelong member of Our Lady of Guadalupe, where she taught religious education for more than 50 years and served alongside her husband in music ministry for more than 30 years. Her favorite pastime was volunteering at church and spending time with her family, especially with her 12 grandchildren, who range from ages 22 to 1.
She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers; and three sisters.
Mae is survived by her husband; her sons, Billy, and his wife, Louisa of Slaton and Patrick, and his wife, Rita of Edinburg; her daughter, Christina Floyd, and her husband, Daniel of Lubbock; her sister, Janie Garcia of Madisonville; and 12 grandchildren.
