Michael Busby Obituary

Michael Don Busby, 70, of Slaton, passed away on March 3, 2026. He passed in UMC Hospital in Lubbock, Texas.

Graveside services will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Monday, March 9, 2026, at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. There will be no viewing or visitation. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Mike was born on July 27, 1955, in Plainview to Brannon and Kathy Busby. He graduated from Slaton High School and continued his education at South Plains College before transferring to West Texas State University in Canyon, where he was a member of the livestock judging team, a fifty-year member of the Phi Delta Theta fraternity, and earned a Bachelor of Science in Agricultural Business. Mike took to sales naturally, and he poured that same warmth into every relationship he built along the way, from his years with Ralston Purina to the many he devoted to Dr Pepper. He had a gift for making everyone feel like the only person in the room. You could find him hunting or fishing, admiring classic cars, especially convertibles, or deep in a conversation about music and movies that he could hold for hours, as he often did. But his true passion was his family, and everything he did pointed back to them. Mike spent many of his later years living with and caring for his Mother, Kathy Busby.

He is preceded in death by his father, Brannon Busby, and his nephew, Jay Oats.

Mike leaves behind his loving family: his son, Brandon Busby and wife, Joni, of Bronte; his mother, Kathy Busby, of Brock; his daughter, Shasta Smith, of Dallas; his sister, Debbie Oats and husband, Commie, of Post; his brother, Jeff Busby and wife, Andrea, of Brock; his grandchildren, Reece and Ryan Mills, and Saige, Saebri, and Brodie Busby; his nieces, Cassie Lewis and husband, Randy, Elyse Busby, and Helene Busby; and his nephew, Garrett Busby.
