Michael Sydney King, Age 76, passed away on March 27, 2021 at University Medical Center, Lubbock, Texas, with his son and daughter-in-law at his bedside. He was the son of Howard “Red” and Irene “Pat” Bryant, and the late Buster King.
Born in Houston, Texas on February 12, 1945, he attended Slaton Schools and went on to join the Navy in 1963, and was honorably discharged in 1966. He later retired as a Conductor for the Santa Fe Railroad of Slaton.
He was a member of the (NRA) National Rifle Association. He enjoyed fishing, vegetable gardening, canning, bird hunting, playing guitar around the campfire, spending time with family and friends, and reading books to learn as much as he could about things that were important to him. He’s known by many to be a good conversationalist and philosopher. He will always be remembered by many long-time friends that often stopped in to visit with him. Definitely one of a kind.
He is survived by 3 children – Shane (Pam) King, Patricia Vinson, and Bobbi (Jayson) Derrick. Also, 3 Sisters – Patsy (Dan) Heath, Betsy (John) Roof, and Baby Sister Lynn (Dennis) McKinney, 7 Grandchildren – Leah, Kortni, Morgan, Michael P. King, and Amber, Kimberly, and Tiffany Derrick, plus 4 Great-Grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. We will ALL miss him so much.
