Mittie Roberts

Mittie Isabel Roberts, 84, of Mathis, TX passed away on Monday, September 25, 2023.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, September 30, 2023, at Englunds Chapel. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are under the direction of Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

Mittie was born on July 10, 1939, in Fresno, California to Eura and Mittie White. Mittie or “Mittie Bell”, as she was lovingly called by her family, was  born during the Great Depression on July 10, 1939, in Fresno, California,  the 6th child of Eura and Mittie White. Her father Eura passed away shortly before her birth. Her mother  remarried and she was raised by her mother and her Daddy Sam Lowe Sr. They went on to have 5 additional children. Mittie lived in Slaton, TX during  childhood and later moved to Woodrow, TX where she attended Lubbock Cooper High School and graduated in 1957.

She was preceded in death by her parents and 9 of her siblings, her husband, Howard Roberts; and her son, Jonah Leon Stapleton.

Mittie is survived by her sons Billy Jack McMeekin (Vera) of San Angelo, TX, Bobby McMeekin (Anna) of Corpus Christi, TX,  Steven McMeekin of Mathis, TX and Sam McMeekin (Cheryl) of La Porte ,TX. Her daughters Ann Helms (Russell) of Corpus Christi, TX and Alice Cranford (Trey) of Orange Grove, TX. Her sister Margie Hubbard (Bill) of Lubbock, TX and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Not to mention the many, many other kids that knew her as Mom, Mama or Granny.
