Patricia "Pat" Ann Cooper Obituary

Patricia Ann Cooper, 83, of Lubbock, passed away on January 4, 2024.


A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 11, 2024, at Englunds Chapel in Slaton.  Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.


Pat was born to Woodrow and Grace Childress on November 9, 1940, in Isola, Mississippi. She married Bill C. Cooper on September 24, 1967, at Bacon Heights Baptist Church in Lubbock, where they eventually settled down to raise a family. Pat was an esteemed and talented seamstress, designing pageant gowns and costumes for contestants from local beauty pageants all the way up to Miss Texas, and the Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders. She was an avid Texas Rangers and Kansas City Chiefs fan, and a member of the West Texas BoonDockers. In addition to her many talents, and hobbies, Pat became a caregiver for her daughter, Shelly, for 12 years and then Bill’s mom, Ophie Shafer.


She is preceded in death by her parents; Woodrow and Grace Childress, her daughter, Shelly Cooper; her sister, Elizabeth Upchurch; and her brother, Sonny Childress.


Pat is survived by her husband, Bill Cooper; her sons Jim Knight and his wife Julie of Lubbock, TX; Scott Cooper and his spouse Shandon of Tulsa, OK.; grandson, Tanner Cooper and his wife Kendra of Lubbock, TX; her sister, Becky and husband Henry Wilson of Jackson, MS.; her brother, Sammy Childress and his wife, Ella of Jackson, MS.; along with six wonderful grandchildren; and four beautiful great-grandchildren.
