Reese Means Obituary

Reese Means was a loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She was an encouragement to all who knew her and handled life daily with humor and grace. Reese was welcomed into the arms of our Lord and Savior on Monday, September 12, 2022, at the age of 83.

Viewing will be 1:00-6:00 pm Sunday, September 18, 2022 with family present for visitation 2:00-3:00pm.  Funeral Services will be 10:30 am Monday, September 19, 2022 at Bible Baptist Church in  Slaton.  Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.

She was born to Ervin and Mollie Roberts on May 20, 1939, at Mercy Hospital in Slaton, Texas. She married Caroll Means on March 4,1961. In 1969 they moved their family to Missouri where they raised their three sons, Dusty, Clay and Cody into fine men. The family returned to Slaton in 1983. Around the age of 50, Reese decided to further her education by attending South Plains College and graduated from nursing school in 1993. She worked as an LVN primarily in home health until her retirement.

Reese was a lifelong member of Bible Baptist Church of Slaton. She found strength, peace, and comfort amongst her church family and was beloved by many over the years. It was her most fervent desire that her family all have a personal relationship with Christ. She was a mighty prayer warrior for her family. Found amongst her journals were these wise words, “Every time we make a decision to be less than what God wants us to be, we deny ourselves some of God’s blessings.”

She was an avid gardener and took pride in sharing her yard with all who visited. Her home was the site for countless family gatherings where celebrations for weddings, holidays and birthdays knit the family tightly together. Reese was a gifted artist, and it gave her great joy to share her talent for painting.

Reese is survived by her three sons, Dusty Means (Sharon), Clay Means (Shelby) and Cody Means (Michelle); three nieces she loved like daughters: Amy Moreno (Tim), Barbie Tubbs (Matt) and Becky Roberts; her brothers, Danny Roberts (Paula) and Randy Roberts (JoAnn); seven beloved grandchildren: Rhenea Tucker (Justin), Misty Hill, Randon Price, Jordan Means (Deidre), Makenzie Means, Caleb Steele and Elijah Steele; ten great grandchildren and numerous other nieces and nephews that she loved dearly. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, her brothers, Bud, and Stanley Roberts and two great nephews, Jacob, and Scout Moreno.

Pallbearers will be Tim Moreno, Matt Tubbs, Monty Means, Justin Means, Shye Downer and Cooper Downer.

In lieu of flowers, Reese requested donations to the Bible Baptist Church Missionary Fund.
