Bob was born on November 25, 1942, in Brownwood to C.E. and Nadine Strickland. Being the son of a baptist minister, they lived in several communities in Texas. He graduated from Levelland High School and moved to Denver, Colorado where he attended electronic school. Upon completion of the program, he joined the U. S. Army and was stationed in Germany, for which he shared many stories of his time there. He was then sent to Vietnam, where he served the rest of his time in the military. When he returned to the U. S., he moved to Amarillo and he met and married the love of his life, Pam Boatright. He enrolled in West Texas State University and graduated with a B. S. in Finance. He went to work in the insurance industry, eventually starting his career as an insurance adjuster and retired in 2004 after 34 years. Bob enjoyed tinkering with electronics and loved wood working, building things such as jewelry boxes and beverage coolers and various other projects. He also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren on his boat at the lake, riding around in his golf cart, and playing games with them.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife; his sister, Judith Strickland; and his brothers, Eual and Marcus Strickland.
Bob is survived by three children, Les Strickland and his wife, Sheryl of Lubbock, Michael Strickland of Little Elm, and Melissa Pace of Wautaga; and his grandchildren, Catherine, Colten and his wife, Amanda, and Caleb Pace.
The family suggest memorials be made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
