Santiago “Jimmy” Bentancourt, Jr., 75, departed from this life on May 22, 2025. 

Viewing will be from 11:00 am-6:00 pm Wednesday, May 28, 2025 at Englunds Chapel followed by a visitation at 6:00 pm. Funeral Services will be at 10:30 am Thursday, May 29, 2025 at Englunds Chapel. Interment will follow at Englewood Cemetery in Slaton.

Jimmy was born in Pearsall, TX on November 16, 1949.  Jimmy moved to Lubbock, TX with his family, and resided in Slaton for the remainder of his adult life.   He married the love of his life, Maria Jaramillo, on November 29, 1969 and celebrated 55 years of marriage with her. Jimmy served many years employed at Eagle Picher until the company moved.  Soon after, he began employment at Texas Tech University, before retiring in August 2013.  He was a dedicated working man and provider for his wife and children.  In his spare time, you could find Jimmy working in the yard, reading the newspaper, enjoying sunshine sitting on the porch, listening to the radio, and spending time with his family.  Later in life, Jimmy found Jesus Christ and accepted Him as his Lord and Savior.  He began to attend church regularly and reading the bible, which is the word of God.  Jimmy looked forward to attending Trinity Church weekly, until he could not any longer, due to his illness.  In Jimmy’s last 2 years of life, he suffered with Parkinson’s disease.  This disease shortened his life on earth, but he gained eternal life in Heaven through salvation in Jesus Christ.  This is the greatest gift he achieved when he departed.  “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.” Philippians 1:21. 

Jimmy is preceded in death by a son, Gregory Bentancourt, parents Santiago Bentancourt, Sr. and Maria Rodriguez, and sister Magdalena Chapa. 

Jimmy is survived by his wife, Mary Bentancourt of Slaton, TX, daughters Sonia B. Constancio of Shallowater, TX, Delia Crawford and husband, Bill, of Ft. Worth, TX, sons Henry Bentancourt, and wife, Shayna of Slaton, TX and Leon Bentancourt of Slaton, TX.  Jimmy had 5 grandchildren he loved.  Stephen Constancio, Jr., Issac Constancio, Avery Bentancourt, Nathan Bentancourt and Rachel Crawford.  Two sisters, Lupe Garcia of Abernathy, TX and Janie Ramos of Dilley, TX.  Two brothers, Juan Bentancourt of Dilley, TX and Luis Bentancourt of San Marcos, TX.
