Shirley Scholz Obituary
Shirley Jo Painter Scholz passed away on Wednesday, June 25, 2025.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 pm, Saturday, June 28, 2025 at Englunds Chapel. A Memorial Service will be scheduled at a later date. Arrangements are by Englunds Funeral Service of Slaton.
Shirley was born July 13, 1949 in San Antonio, TX. She was raised and attended school in Amarillo, TX. She graduated from Amarillo High School in 1967. She married Karl Scholz on November 26, 1969, and moved to Lubbock in 1973, and Ransom Canyon in April 1977, where she started her lifelong career in nursing and raised her boys.
Shirley was an adventurous spirit. She loved to water ski, snow ski, snow board, had her pilot's license, loved deep-sea fishing, motocross, and even sky-diving. She lived life to the fullest.
Shirley was even more impressive in her professional career. She was a registered nurse, a CCRN, an EMT-P, specializing in emergency medicine, and served as a flight nurse, chief flight nurse and Regional Director from July 1985-April 2016 at AeroCare. During her tenure, she also served on the Texas Association of Air Medical Services Board, where she was a pioneer in the air medical industry and played an instrumental role in the development of Air EMS rule in Texas and New Mexico. Her tireless dedication and unwavering commitment to excellence were pivotal in establishing AeroCare's reputation for outstanding service, a legacy that continues today.
Shirley was a born-again Christian, and a longtime member of the United Methodist Church, but was most recently a member of Ransom Canyon Chapel. Shirley went by many names, including Mom, Momma Bear and Oma. Her home always had an open door, and kids and adults were always dropping by to say hello and catch up with her. Shirley had a huge heart, and could never turn away a stray - whether it be a stray dog needing a home, or a wayward soul that needed a place to stay for a while, and some lovin'. Shirley was always available with open arms. She was a listening ear, never judging, but always giving words of encouragement and wisdom. Shirley was a second mom to more kids than even she realized. With all of her accomplishments, nothing meant more to Shirley than her boys, Wesley & Bryan, and her grandkids, Addyson and Waker, and her triplets, Josh, Jacob & Jill. She loved watching them compete and grow. She loved bragging on their accomplishments and showing their pictures. They were her pride & joy!
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, Lelan Painter & Helen Capp, her brother Kenneth Painter, her sister Nora Lincycomb and her son, Nickolas Bryan Scholz. She is survived by her husband Karl Scholz, of Ransom Canyon, TX, her son Wesley Scholz of Glen Rose, TX, her grandchildren, Addyson & Waker Scholz of Glen Rose, TX, several in-laws, nieces and nephews and cousins that loved her.
